The New Haven Boosters Association (NHBA) is a group of students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community leaders focused on raising awareness and funding to support co-curricular activities in the New Haven Unified School District (NHUSD).
As a result of the current state financial crisis, the annual operating budget for NHUSD has been steadily shrinking, forcing the NHUSD Board to consider eliminating co-curricular stipends for student activities. These student activities include all athletic programs, band, colorguard, choir, and forensics. The community recognized this as a CALL to ACTION and the end result is the formation of NHBA.
Working in conjunction with the New Haven Schools Foundation (NHSF), our goal is to maintain awareness of the need to keep these student activities in our district and to raise enough funds to carry our community through this financial crisis. Until such time the co-curricular stipends are no longer threatened by budget cuts, NHBA will be around to rally support for our students.
NHBA's mission is to support all NHUSD co-curricular programs. While the vast majority of the co-curricular funding does support James Logan High School, funding also supports athletics, band, colorguard, and choir programs at both Alvarado and Cesar Chavez Middle Schools. Since our community has a single comprehensive high school, nearly every elementary and middle school child is scheduled to attend Logan. Therefore, they too, will benefit from the efforts we make today! NHBA realizes the current financial limitations of supporting elementary school co-curricular programs, however, once the crisis is averted, expanding these programs to the elementary level is one of our future goals.
Please join NHBA in our efforts to save co-curricular activities for current AND future generations of New Haven students. For more information, contact us at info@newhavenboosters.org
